Summit County Courthouse Art Show Highlights Local Work

The Curated Courthouse presents Visual Order in the Court with the Artists of Group Ten exhibiting in the Historic Summit County Courthouse. The show, featuring the works in various mediums of 14 artists from the group, runs from December 10 through January 21.  The art is for sale with proceeds going directly to the artists.

“The current show at the Summit County Probate Court is an example of what the Artists of Group Ten do best — producing and showing professional fine art in Northeast Ohio,” says artist Jeff Fauser. “The Probate Court’s space is a hidden gem and a unique venue that serves to complement the work of the Group Ten artists. Viewers of this show are sure to be amazed at the space and the artworks presented.”

The Artists of Group Ten, previously known as Group Ten Gallery, was founded in Kent in 2011 as an artist-owned cooperative. Ten local professional artists were initially invited to join and over the next few years, their numbers grew to 17.

When the COVID pandemic forced the closure of the physical gallery space in Kent, the group’s motivated members sought to continue exhibiting their work. This motivation prompted the Artists of Group Ten to partner with the Akron Society of Artists, a 90-year-old arts organization. The group now operates under the umbrella of the Akron Society of Artists while maintaining its original identity.

Curated Courthouse is a collaboration between Summit County Probate Court and Curated Storefront. This partnership provides inspiration and gives respite through art from diverse local artists to employees and often unwilling visitors in the stressful environment within the historic Summit County Courthouse. It’s funded through the Knight Foundation as well as dozens of area foundations.

The Summit County Courthouse is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located at 209 S. High St, Akron. Masks are required to enter the building.
