ThriveTalk Episode 2: How Cleveland Lost, and Then Found, Superman

When this year’s “Superman” movie hit theaters, Northeast Ohio residents saw more than just the Man of Steel; they saw Cleveland streets and buildings because part of the film was shot here. It makes sense that Superman returned to Cleveland. After all, it’s the birthplace of the action hero. Thrive’s pop culture columnist, Mike Olszewski, tells us how Glenville’s Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster created Superman in 1933, how they, and Cleveland, lost the comic book hero, and how the city is reclaiming its arguably most famous creation.

Mike Olszewski is a veteran Cleveland radio host and personality. He and his wife, Janice, are the authors of books about Cleveland TV, rock and roll, radio and other topics. Mike is Thrive’s Pop Culture Chronicles columnist. You can reach him at [email protected].
