Learning In Retirement Registration Set

If you’re looking to give yourself a gift this holiday season, we’ve got a great suggestion: Take a class.

The Institute for Learning in Retirement-East (ILR-East), affiliated with Baldwin Wallace University, has opened class registration for its six-week winter term featuring 13 continuing education classes.

ILR-East is an east-side older adult learning program that provides college-level courses in a friendly, non-competitive environment without the stress of exams. All instructors are experienced professionals and retired professors.

The winter term will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 7 and run for six weeks through Thursday, Feb. 13. Most classes are offered in person at Temple Emanu El, at the corner of Brainard and Emery Roads, 4545 Brainard Road in Orange Village. In addition to weekly courses, this term includes three single-session in-person presentations, and one course via Zoom.

Registration is due by Thursday, Jan. 2 and is available only by mail. The course schedule can be found at bw.edu/ilr-east. For the registration material, contact ILR-East at 440-826-2400 or [email protected]. Most classes meet once a week and are held Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Membership is required to enroll, and course fees are as follows:

  • Annual Membership is $30 annually (covering July 1, 2024-June 30, 2025)
  • Each six-week course costs $35. Single-session presentations are $10 each

This winter’s courses cover various topics including music and art appreciation, science, religion, and film. A few of the course titles are: “The Movies of Dustin Hoffman,” “Courtroom War Stories,” and “Abraham and Moses in the Islamic Tradition.”
