Seeing a performance at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland is always a treat but have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes?
Learn about the restoration of the theater district’s historic theaters, their history and more during free, 90-minute tours offered monthly.
The five restored theaters built between 1921-22 are architectural gems. Guided by a RedCoat volunteer, you’ll learn how they became showpieces of downtown Cleveland.
With five fully restored historic theaters, Playhouse Square is the largest performing arts center outside of New York City and hosts nearly 1,000,000 guests and 1,000 curtains each year.
Dates for the free tours are the following select Saturdays:
-
- February 1
- March 7
- April 11
- May 9
Check the Playhouse Square website, playhousesquare.org, for updates on other free tour dates.
Tours depart from the Key Bank Theatre lobby every 15 minutes between 10-11:30 a.m. and last approximately 90 minutes. The last tour departs at 11:30 a.m. Tours do involve stairs and theater managers suggest wearing comfortable shoes.
Please note that backstage access during tours is subject to availability.
No registration is necessary for groups with fewer than ten (10) people. If you have a group of ten (10) or more guests planning to attend a free tour date, please contact Megan Anderson at [email protected].
