Why (and How) Retirees Return to Work

I’ve met a few people recently who had an uncomfortable transition to retirement. I’ll bet you know a few, too.

So, what’s going on? We have an image of retirement that doesn’t always match reality. Part of it is that we’re living longer, and retirement in our 60s is starting to seem premature for some of us, especially if we’re lucky enough to enjoy good health. In other situations, retirees haven’t planned for what they’ll do with all that free time.

Watching Netflix and playing golf are fun. But they’re not fun every day.

Kiplinger magazine has an interesting article this week about retirees who return to work.

The first question the story addresses is why? Inflation and the fluctuating stock market are two reasons.
