Mentor Public Library Adult Program Highlights for September 2025

There’s a great line-up of interesting programs coming to Mentor Public Library. Most library programs are hosted in-person at one of the library’s branches. A few are hosted online via Zoom. When registration is required, you can sign up by calling the library or online at mentorpl.org.

The Murderous Mrs. West: The Whole Story
Thursday, Sept. 4, at 6:30 p.m.
Village Room, Main Branch
Local historian Ginnie Jeschelnig shares a fascinating and true murder case from the 1920s in Lake County — infamous at its time but almost forgotten today. The question — then and now — isn’t if Velma West killed her husband, it’s why. Registration required.

Meet Us in the Garden: All You Really Need to Know About Bulbs
Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m.

The Lake County Master Gardener Volunteers explain what you need to know before your start planting bulbs in your beds. Registration required.

The Great Crash of 1929
Monday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. John Foster revisits the stock market crash of 1929. Its catastrophic effects are still felt in American public life today. Discover how this traumatic event also shapes our memory of the Roaring 1920s. Registration is required.

Puzzle Swap
Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Village Room, Main Branch
Swap your jigsaw puzzles for something new! From Sept. 8 through 12, anyone can drop off used puzzles at the Front Desk of MPL’s Main Branch. The puzzles should be in good condition with no missing pieces, have at least 300 pieces, and be in their original boxes. Donors will receive one ticket for each donated puzzle. The tickets can be redeemed for a new-to-you puzzle during the library’s Jigsaw Puzzle Swap Day on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Nature Journaling
Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m.
Headlands Beach State Park
Join the library at a different Mentor park each month to forge a deeper connection with yourself and the marvels of nature. Explore different journaling techniques across a variety of media. Open to all ages and skill levels. No experience necessary. Limited instruction will be given, as this is a way for each individual to create their own way of observing and connecting to nature. All supplies provided, but feel free to bring your own. Registration required.

Dressing Gatsby: Fashion of the 1920s
Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m.
Village Room, Main Branch
Sara Hume, Curator/Professor of the Kent State Fashion Museum, explores the social and technological changes that led to radical new styles in the 1920s. Go beyond the flapper and discover a variety of different style influences. Registration required.
