Most of us have too much stuff, and that can complicate holiday gift giving. Where do we put all of those things?

That’s not a problem with a gift of food; not only do people like receiving food, they also eat it. Storage issue solved.

 We’ve rounded up a few locally made foods and beverages that are good for giving, either in pre-packaged gift boxes available on the product website or purchased individually and put together in a DIY basket.

  • Nathan’s Famous pickles. Made in Garrettsville in Portage County, these are available throughout the nation and right here in NEO. Check the refrigerated cases at your local grocery store.

  • Hillson Nut Co. You can shop in person at their store on 3225 W 71st St., or order online at hillsonnut.com. This family owned business has been roasting and selling nuts since 1935. It’s one of several in Northeast Ohio including Peterson Nut Co., and King Nut, both available in stores nationally. The Peterson’s-King Nut Outlet Store is in Solon. Kingnut.com

 

  • Malley’s Chocolates. Founded in 1935 and still run by members of the Malley family, you can buy the delectable candies made here in Cleveland at 19 retail stores throughout the region. A fan favorite: Milk Chocolate NutMallows and Malley Ohs! Malleys.com

 

  • Rothenbühler Cheese Chalet/Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op. This Middlefield cheese factory has a retail store near downtown Middlefield in Geauga County, though you can go online and have gifts shipped. rothenbuhler.myshopify.com

 

  • Hartville Potato Chips. Made in Akron and sold at Heinen’s, Giant Eagle, Acme and other stores (see specifics on the website), this family-run company buys potatoes locally and makes them in small batches. hartvillepotatochips.com

 

  • Cleveland Whiskey. Approaching its 10th anniversary in 2023, this downtown Cleveland distillery distributes throughout the country and sells online through partner companies. Clevelandwhiskey.com

 

  • J&J Czuchraj Meats. If smoked, dried meat is what you need, then you’ll like what this long-time West Side Market company is selling: Buffalo-seasoned chicken jerky, honey smokies, Hungarian kielbasa and more. Order online at stores. jandjmeats.com
