Celebrate the arrival of fall with a visit to Hale Farm & Village’s Harvest Festival, planned for the first two weekends in October from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
This family-friendly event in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park offers seasonal experiences such as apple cider pressing and butter churning, meeting Johnny Appleseed, pumpkin painting and more. Learn how the pioneers of the region prepared for the winter months ahead through food preservation demonstrations. In addition to these autumn-themed activities, the artisans at Hale Farm & Village will be creating handcrafted-at-Hale items including glass, pottery, ironwork and textiles.
Harvest Festival is historically the time when farmers celebrate all of the hard work during the growing season. Education Manager, Joe Skonce explains, “C.O. Hale had an extensive apple orchard. The smaller orchard that still exists on property is the backdrop for cider pressing and apple butter making. Other harvest activities can be seen at the Saltbox House herb garden (funded and maintained by the Bath Gamma Garden Club) where herbs will be harvested and preserved for use during the winter, and at First Settlement where cooking demonstrations will happen.” Guests will have the opportunity to learn about these gardens and techniques.
Admission to the Harvest Festival is $12 for adults (13 years and older), $6 for children (ages 3 to 12years) and free for children under 2 years old, active military and Western Reserve Historical Society members. Admission price to the Harvest Festival includes festival activities and access to all historic structures as well as early American craft and trade demonstrations.
Café 1810 will be open and serving seasonal favorites including hot apple cider and apple cider mimosas. The MarketPlace at Hale Farm & Village will also be offering seasonal hand-blown glass pumpkins, Ohio made apple and pumpkin butter, and other locally made artisan items.
Hale Farm & Village will continue to follow CDC, state and local health recommendations. Masks are required for staff and visitors when indoors or unable to maintain a proper social distance outdoors. Find more information at wrhs.org/events/harvest-festival-2021
