Habitat for Humanity Walk/Run/Mosey 2023 Set for July 8

Habitat for Humanity Walk/Run/Mosey 2023 Set for July 8

Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity will hold its 22nd Annual 5K & 1 Mile Walk/Run/MoseyJuly 8 at Cleveland Edgewater Park.

The couple who founded the walk in 2001 have had a particularly large impact on the community and have contributed to Habitat’s mission for decades. Retired Lutheran Pastor John Evans and his wife Mary first started their involvement in Habitat through John’s church connections in 1994 when he was in his 70s. They helped with building and fundraising ever since, including attending the walk every year following its inception. John attended his last walk in 2020 at the age of 99, and his widow Mary plans to participate this year at the age of 94. With dedicated life-long volunteers like John and Mary, Habitat’s mission remains strong.

In 2022, Greater Cleveland Habitat connected 23 families to safe, decent and affordable homes. This year, they intend to do even more. Their fundraising goal for the walk is 180k which will be used towards home-building and rehabs in the Buckeye-Woodhill neighborhood, part of a larger project to build 100 homes in the area by 2024 and rehab over 70 by 2027. The community’s continued support is what makes this event possible year after year. All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.
