The City is Our Museum, a new, free app spotlighting public art and public spaces throughout Cleveland provides self-guided tours that should appeal to those of us who like finding art in unexpected places.
The pandemic emphasized the importance of accessible and well-maintained parks and greenspaces to support the physical, social and mental health of communities. Early on, when museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions were closed, LAND Studio created The City is Our Museum (TCIOM), a social media campaign advocating for the exploration of Cleveland’s public art and public spaces. At a time when people needed to socially distance, the organization wanted to highlight the joy that is experienced by discovering the city’s neighborhoods. Now LAND has an app to make that exploration easier.
The app is free to download from both the Apple Store and Google Play, and promotes the exploration of Cleveland’s expansive public art and public spaces. The app features several different self-guided neighborhood tours, with plans to add additional neighborhood tours throughout the summer.
Available now are neighborhood tours of Buckeye-Shaker, the central district of downtown Cleveland, the near west side of Cleveland, MidTown, and the 2021 Cleveland Walls! mural festival.
The vision for the App is to connect residents and visitors to Cleveland’s ever-expanding public art collection, highlight the beauty in our neighborhoods, and to include other notable sites related to the city’s history and infrastructure.
LAND Studio promotes and manages public art installations, cultural programming and civic space development projects across the city of Cleveland.
