If you’ve got older parents (or are an older parent yourself), you know that in many ways we’re defined by the paperwork we keep and the paperwork we leave behind.
That theory comes into sharp focus at tax time. My dad is 90 and ably handles his piles of medical, household and tax documents. He’s also wise enough to show me where and how he keeps his records and passwords in case I need to handle them someday.
This brings to mind a blog post I came across from Orion Bell, CEO of the Benjamin Rose, a Cleveland organization that serves more than 10,000 adults and caregivers throughout Greater Cleveland in ways too numerous to detail. You can learn more at benrose.org.
Bell writes about helping his mom with her tax preparation after his dad died and then elaborates on the many tax assistance programs Benjamin Rose has for older adults. With the tax deadline looming, I thought his blog was timely. Read it here.
