Akron Art Museum Opens Contemporary Exhibit

State of the Art: Constructs, an exhibit of contemporary art in multiple mediums, opens Nov. 12 and runs through Feb. 26 at the Akron Art Museum.

The exhibit came about through a journey led by curators from the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, who traveled across the United States searching for the most impressive artists currently working.

Their search brought together a diverse group of 61 artists whose works reflect the current state of contemporary art with various perspectives, backgrounds and mediums.

State of the Art: Constructs includes a focused selection of 21 artists whose pieces focus on shared conceptions — concepts of planet, place, and self. Who we are, what we are, what we do… all of these can be examined through art or even reconstructed to move forward. What humans have constructed, they can tear asunder.

The pieces address global strife, environmental issues, and personal identity. They cover nature, objects, humans, animals, and spirits. The details and contexts of these pieces vary — but altogether offer a collective artist glimpse at contemporary life.

Akron Art Museum is located at 1 S. High St. in Akron.
