If you’re counting down the days until the big eclipse (and hoping for a clear sky), you’ve already gotten your special glasses and figured out where you plan to see the minutes-long celestial event the afternoon of April 8, 2024. The eclipse is big news here in Northeast Ohio, where Clevelanders will enjoy a prime viewing spot.
Outside of the region, it’s not getting quite as much attention, judging by comments from friends and family members in other parts of the country. Out of sight, out of mind, is how it goes for all but the most devoted sky watchers among people outside of the area of totality.
Fingers crossed that our normally cloudy skies open up to let us enjoy the event fully. A total solar eclipse is a rarity and something to be celebrated. The Western Reserve Historical Society has an interesting blog post about the last time our region experienced a total eclipse: 1806. No doubt, Monday’s eclipse will be viewed by thousands more people than the one more than 200 years ago.
