Register Now for Fall Classes at The Institute for Learning in Retirement-East
ORANGE VILLAGE – Fall registration is now open for continuing education classes from the Institute for Learning in Retirement-East (ILR-East). ILR-East is an east-side senior learning program affiliated with Baldwin Wallace University. Now in its 21st year, the ILR-East program provides college-level courses without the stress of exams, in a friendly, non-competitive environment.
This fall, due to the ongoing pandemic, all courses will be presented online using Zoom to meet the needs of area seniors. Topics include theater, history, political science, religion, music, art appreciation, and much more. To learn more about the classes, visit www.bw.edu/ilr-east. Registration is available only by mail. For the registration address, contact ILR-East at (216) 987-2985 or [email protected].
The fall term begins on October 6 and the schedule of courses is posted on the program’s website at www.bw.edu/ilr-east. Each class meets once a week for six weeks. Classes are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays by Zoom.
ILR-East instructors are experienced professionals and retired professors, all of whom are volunteers. As a result, the tuition charged is very low:
- Member cost is $15 per course
- Non-member cost is $20 per course
- Annual membership is $30
Fall 2020 tuition reflects a reduction in ILR-East’s customary charge because the classes will be offered online instead of in person.
“ILR East has adjusted to the new normal by providing its classes virtually, just like other continuing education programs,” said Bill Rafalski, a board member and film instructor for 12 years. “Our senior students’ health and safety are of the highest importance, so we have worked to assemble a variety of classes they can take from the comfort of their own homes.”
