The Center for LifeLong Learning at Lorain County Community College offers educational and enrichment programs for adults 50 and older. This fall, it’s going virtual with 20 dynamic course offerings. Instructors will be teaching on your computer screen. All courses are online so you can stay safe while having fun and learning.
“We understand that technology can be frightening, but we are here to help,” says Program Director Jennifer Krupa. “Technology instructions and assistance will take place before each course starts to help make sure your technology is working and that you are comfortable for your classes. We can even arrange a practice session if you have not tried WebEx before.”

2. Women Innovators: Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori was more than Italy’s first woman doctor at the beginning of the 20th century; she was a revolutionary educator. Montessori developed an innovative system based on a child’s stage of development as well as their needs and interests. Her methodology inspires the child to learn at their pace, awakening what she termed “the Inner Teacher” and setting a foundation of life-long learning.

9. Balance, Flexibility and Mobility with Paul & Mary
While building strength and aerobic capacity are hugely important to all our fitness programs, we too often don’t spend enough of our training time with the types of exercises that help us to move comfortably and confidently through life. This course is designed specifically for older adults to improve their balance, flexibility, and mobility. For balance, your instructors, Paul and Mary, will guide you through a series easy exercises that will help you improve your balance. Following that, your instructors will guide you through the most important stretches that allow you to improve your mobility. These exercises will help you achieve your goals to be fit, vibrant, and independent now and well into your later years. 11. THE ART OF MEXICO: Mexican Art from Pre-Columbian to Modern
The art of Mexico is as rich and varied as any culture in the history of art. Since the time of the Olmec, Maya, and Aztec, the artists and architects of Pre-Columbian Mexico have produced vast ancient cities with towering pyramids, grand plazas, and ball courts. During the colonial period, indigenous artists produced codices that detailed the barbarity of the Spanish conquerors. During the 20th century, Mexico produced some of the most impressive mural cycles in the history of world art.

What does it take for someone to change their beliefs? Perhaps a relevant question in today’s increasingly polarized society. Paul went from Christian persecutor to proselytizer in a very short time. A self-described zealot who inadvertently started two religions; first Christianity, then centuries later inspiring Martin Luther’s Protestant Reformation. Amazingly, Paul’s writings still hold relevance to issues we face today. Let’s explore who the historical Paul was, what he wrote, and why it still matters.

13. CARAVAGGIO: The Outlaw Painter
Michelangelo Merisi, better known as Caravaggio after his birthplace, was one of the most important artists in history. He led a revolution in painting that would influence artists all over Europe from the Netherlands to Spain. His dark manner paintings, known as “Tenebrism”, produced sharply spotlighted figures against deep, dark backgrounds. He became enormously successful, but he was also remarkably ill behaved. He was listed in police records 14 times in a six-year period and was forced to flee Rome due to a murder charge. He went to Naples, to Malta, to Sicily, back to Naples, and then at the very moment his benefactors worked a pardon for him, he died mysteriously at age 38.

17. THE PRINCE OF PAINTERS: The Art and Life of Raphael
Raphael, along with Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, form the holy trinity of High Renaissance artists. Primarily a painter, he was also an architect. He was barely 18 when he received his first major commission, which led to monumental masterpieces in Florence and Rome. His greatest work, “The School of Athens” is the go to masterpiece when any art historian wants to characterize the High Renaissance style. Known for his grace of style in both art and life, his early death at 37 was a tragedy that cut off the career of one of the greatest artists in history.

Continuing our exploration of Reality and the human perception and interpretation of it. Psychology, Biology, Religion and Physics all combine to give us a brief snapshot of reality. In the 20th century, psychologist Carl Jung concluded God directly communicated to humans through dreams. Are dream images universal or unique? What do those dreams mean to us? If Jung is correct, is this the only way we might perceive God? One need not attend Nature of Reality to understand this class.
