The Center for Aging in the Digital World is hosting its first annual Dollars for Digital Literacy fundraiser Sunday, Dec. 9 from 5-7 p.m. at Arturo’s Bar and Grille in North Olmsted, 26679 Brookpark Road Extension.
The Center was founded by Tak and Mely Sato. Tak is Northeast Ohio Boomer and Beyond’s tech columnist.
Dollars for Digital Literacy will raise money to help grow the nonprofit Center for Aging in the Digital World. The Center empowers seniors to begin their path to digital literacy by offering a free series of technology classes for people 60 and older.
Tickets are $25. Guests will enjoy a pasta and meatballs dinner and will have a chance to participate in raffles that include gift certificates to local restaurants, shops and other retailers. A cash bar will be available. To reserve tickets call 440-787-2020.
For three years, the center has been offering a comprehensive program that introduces and teaches seniors how to use and benefit from technology. The free, 16-week course, taught by Tak Sato, uses tablet computers and a “one finger” touch method to engage students who may have been intimidated or unsure of how to get started using technology.
Fundraiser proceeds will be used to pay for new tablets for class members and to establish a dedicated teaching space.
