85th Anniversary Events Celebrate Superman’s Cleveland

Did you know that Superman was created here in Cleveland? To celebrate the 85th anniversary of the first comic book superhero, two months of programs are planned across the city from now through Nov. 2 for “Superman’s Cleveland.”
Superman’s Cleveland shines a super spotlight on the superhero, featuring exhibits, speakers, workshops, book discussions and more. Superman’s Cleveland is supported by Ohio Humanities and hosted by the Rust Belt Humanities Lab at Ursuline College and the Ohio Center for the Book at Cleveland Public Library.
Superman was created in 1938 in Glenville by two sons of Jewish immigrants, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
Events taking place throughout Greater Cleveland and include:

Cleveland Public Library
The Lineage and Legacy of Superman,  an exhibit of rare memorabilia, autographs, and more, including the actual desk of Jerry Siegel, is on display on the 2nd floor of Cleveland Public Library’s downtown Main Library, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage
Superman is featured in the Maltz Museum’s gallery An American Story. For ticket information, visit maltzmuseum.org

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
The Cleveland Hopkins International Airport hosts a Superman exhibit for those arriving in Cleveland. For more information, visit clevelandairport.com/airport/cle-art-program/permanent-exhibits/superman-exhibit
