Tell Us About Dating Over 55

We’re working on a dating story; specifically, dating in the second half of life.

If you have a friend who’s looking for a partner, or just someone to go to dinner or a museum with, then you’ve heard how difficult it is to return to the dating scene. By the time we’re 55 or older, we know what we want in a relationship, or should. At the very least, we know what we don’t want, and that can be a problem because potential partners do, too. The trick is to sort through the detritus of past relationships and forge a new one.

All that’s a long way of saying that we’re looking for dating stories. What’s it like out there? What challenges have you faced? Do you have any tips for newcomers to the dating scene? Where’s a good place to meet people? Have you met someone and want to talk about it? Where’s a good place for a first date? Tell us about your experiences, the good and the bad.

When we meet with readers at our popular Boomer Bash events (the next one is coming up on Thursday, April 18 at LaCentre in Westlake), one of the most frequent questions is, “How do I meet someone?”

Share your stories and tips by sending an email to e[email protected] before Feb. 20. Put “dating” in the subject line. Participants will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card.

Dating is tough at any age. We want to help make it a bit easier. Go ahead, send us an email (and photos, if you’ve met someone special) so we know what it’s like out there. This next stage in life promises to be interesting. Dating for people 55 and older: that can be interesting AND fun.

I’ve gone water skiing a few times over the years, and the only thing I remember is where my swimsuit bottom ended up when my backside hit the water. That’s probably not an issue for the Chippewa Lake Water Ski Show Team in Medina.
