Stan Hywet Season Opens April 1

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens opens on April 1 for the 2023 season.

The Manor House exhibit, Connections: Love & the Ties That Bind explores relationships within the Seiberling family. The season includes a robust line-up of public programs and new education programs.  In April, guests who buy a ticket for a self-guided Manor House tour and donate a non-perishable food item when they arrive will receive a second ticket at no charge.  All food collected will be donated to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank.

Stan Hywet is located at 714 N. Portage Path in Akron.

The exhibit explores the personal relationships in the multi-generational household of F.A.  and Gertrude Seiberling. There is a particular focus in the exhibit on the six Seiberling children and how their connections made through marriage affected not only the family dynamic but the community around them.

Self-guided as well as guided tours are available to guests this season, including the Guided Manor House Tour, the Nooks & Crannies Tour, and beginning in May, the Guided Garden Tour. The Outdoor History Tour, a companion to the “Nooks” tour is offered monthly, May – September.

New education programs include monthly Twilight Walks from April – August, a class on building a pollinator garden on May 20, and an evening to view the Perseid meteor shower on August 12.

Stan Hywet’s line-up of public programs begins with the Easter Egg Hunt on April 8. The schedule of public programs also includes Founders’ Day Weekend, June 9-10; the Father’s Day Car Show, June 18; Off the Vine: An Evening Pairing of Food & Wine, Aug. 18;  the Molto Bella Auto Show,  Sept. 10; and Ohio Mart, Oct. 5-8. Murder in the Mansion is select nights in October, and Deck the Hall is select evenings Nov. 24-Dec. 30.

HOURS OF OPERATION AND TOUR INFORMATION
Beginning April 1 – November 22, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is open for daytime tours Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., the last admission is at 4 p.m. The estate is closed to the public on Mondays. Hours of operation for public programs (special events) may be different and are posted at stanhywet.org. Beginning Nov. 24, Stan Hywet is open only for Deck the Hall from 3-8 p.m. More details on this event will be posted at stanhywet.org later in the season.

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, located at 714 N. Portage Path in Akron. It is the former residence of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company co-founder F.A. Seiberling and his family. In 1957, Stan Hywet became a non-profit historic estate museum so that the public could benefit from the cultural, educational, and inspirational riches of one of the most significant achievements in architecture and horticulture to come out of America’s Industrial Age. Open for tours April through December, Stan Hywet is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and is Akron, Ohio’s oldest National Historic Landmark.
