Register for BW Learning in Retirement Program

The Institute for Learning in Retirement-East (ILR-East) is opening its 25th year with 25 continuing education courses for the fall term.

LR-East is an eastside older adult learning program affiliated with Baldwin Wallace University, providing college-level courses without the stress of exams, in a friendly, non-competitive environment. All instructors are experienced professionals and retired professors.

The fall term begins Tuesday, Sept. 17, and run for seven weeks, skipping Oct. 1-3 and 17, and ends on Thursday, Oct. 31. Most classes are offered in person at Temple Emanu El, at the corner of Brainard and Emery Roads, 4545 Brainard Road in Orange Village. In addition to weekly courses, this term includes eight single-session in-person presentations and two courses via Zoom.

Registration is due by Thursday, Sept. 12 and is available only by mail. The course schedule can be found at bw.edu/ilr-east. For the registration material, contact ILR-East at 440-826-2400 or [email protected]. Most classes meet once a week and are held Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Membership is required to enroll, and course fees are as follows:
– Annual Membership is $30 per year (covering July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025).
– Each six-week course costs $35. Single-session presentations are $10 each.
This fall’s courses cover a wide variety of topics including the First Amendment, Cleveland history,
music appreciation, election updates, Internet humor, science, religion, and film. A few of the course titles are “Laugh for the Health of It,” “Universal Mysticism,” and “The Great Inventions that Shaped Civilization.”
