It’s Time for a Beach Blanket Bash!

It’s Time for a Beach Blanket Bash!

Remember when wholesome Annette Funicello and dreamy Frankie Avalon kept our movie screens and imaginations a-flutter with beach party films? Even though these flicks majored in dancing, bikini-clad sexpots, squeaky-clean Annette of Mickey Mouse Club fame never let her two-piece bathing suits ever expose her navel or find her in compromising scenes.

Beach Blanket Bingo” was the fifth beach party film in the series, appearing in 1965; kinda cool for its day but remarkably square and goofy to modern eyes and ears. Silly plot lines and ridiculous twists typify these light, romantic musicals and remind us of more innocent times.

Frankie Avalon later remembered “Beach Blanket Bingo” as the movie that “people remember best, and it was just a lot of kids having a lot of fun — a picture about young romance and about the opposition of adults… There’s nothing that young people respond to more than when adults say `These kids are nuts,’ and that’s what this movie was about.”

So now that we’ve set the scene, come on back down memory lane with us to Boomer Bash East 2023 – Beach Blanket Bash on Thursday, June 29, 4-6 p.m. at Lavera in Willoughby Hills.

Cosponsored by Northeast Ohio Boomer magazine and Hospice of the Western Reserve, this fun-filled, throwback networking event will feature more than 50 vendors with products and services geared to folks aged 50+. Grab one of our signature cocktails (The Boomer Boss), nibble on complimentary food samples, and let the music of the 1960s set the surfer-movie vibe.

We’ll have:

Advance (online) tickets cost $10, but tickets at the door will be $15 (CASH ONLY).

Don’t forget to bring cash for the bar and our raffle. Raffle tickets are only $1 each and benefit our nonprofit partner.

Grab your cool shades and sunhat, and come on out to our Beach Blanket Bash! Annette and Frankie would approve.
