Do you recall reading about Austin Walkin’ Cane in our May 2020 issue of Northeast Ohio Boomer magazine? The local blues singer was looking forward to his 50th birthday. He would have been at the pinnacle of his performance career, two weeks into a six-week European tour, having shared the stage with blues legends B.B. King and Buddy Guy, and rock icons Johnny Winter, Deep Purple and ZZ Top, among others.
But instead of celebrating with adoring crowds, Austin ‘Walkin’ Cane’ Charanghat was stuck at home in West Park, practicing social distancing with his two teenage sons. No stranger to hard times, he took the career-cancelling potential of the pandemic in stride. And now he’s back in full force, performing around Northeast Ohio and around the world.
He’s also out with a new album, recorded at the renowned FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. In 2022, Walkin’ Cane signed with Hoboville Records, a new German roots record label, and released his album “Muscle Shoals” earlier this year.
He recently sat down for an interview—interspersed with musical performances—with local PBS station Ideastream Public Media. Enjoy the show!
