Benjamin Rose has collaborated with CHN Housing Partners to rehabilitate and expand Margaret Wagner Apartments (2375 Euclid Heights Boulevard, Cleveland Heights). To celebrate and showcase the project, they held a grand opening for the community this week.
The event marks the completion of extensive renovations that began in 2023 to expand affordable housing for older adults. The project includes 20 new one-bedroom units on the first floor, updates to all 60 existing apartments, enhanced accessibility and modernized community spaces.
Built in 1960, the five-story Margaret Wagner facility operated as a nursing home until 1997. Benjamin Rose previously converted floors 2-5 into 60 HUD 202 apartments. Those apartments are occupied by single older adults, most of whom have household incomes that are less than 30% of Area Median Income.
“We are proud to partner with Benjamin Rose to rehabilitate the Margaret Wagner Apartments,” says Kevin Nowak, president and CEO of CHN Housing Partners. “Margaret Wagner is now a beautiful place for 80 seniors to call home thanks to the many funders and partners that made this renovation a reality.”
Money for the project was provided by the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, Key Community Development Corporation, Citizens Bank, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Cuyahoga County, Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, and the City of Cleveland Heights. HiTi DiFrancesco & Siebold served as the project architect.
“This project ensures that together with CHN Housing Partners, we can ensure the utmost in comfort and safety to our residents,” says Orion Bell, president and chief executive officer of Benjamin Rose. “In addition to housing, Benjamin Rose will continue to provide Margaret Wagner residents with supportive services and onsite programs and amenities appropriate for senior independent living.”
Benjamin Rose is a Cleveland-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the aging journey of adults and those who care for them through delivering accessible, centralized programs.
