If Beyoncé can rock the country look, you can too! Just add a nice 10-gallon hat to your denims and cowboy boots, and come on out to Boomer Bash West. Co-presented by Northeast Ohio Boomer and Spry Senior, Boomer Bash Goes Country is coming to Westlake’s LaCentre at 4-6 p.m. on April 18, 2024.
According to Langston’s Westernwear, a bona fide outfitter of country clothing to Oklahoma and The West for over 100 years, there are four fashion essentials to dressing Country Western. Nailing the perfect country outfit is as simple as this top-to-bottom guide. Soon, you’ll be geared up and ready for Boomer Bash Goes West:
1) HATS
The foundation for any country ensemble starts at the top and ends at the bottom—cowboy hats and cowboy boots. Traditional cowboy hats were high-crowned with wide, flat brims. Today Western cowboy hats can also feature shaped brims, buckle sets, and modern accents, like prints and studs.
2) TOPS
What makes a shirt a Western shirt? Denim or plaid, snap pockets, fringe and embroidery are just a few Western top staples. If you’re going for classic cowboy (think Roy Rogers), go for a Western dress shirt with detailed embroidery or Western yokes. Contemporary cowboys and cowgirls are all about plaids.
3) BOTTOMS
Choose denim staples by brands with roots and heart in the Old West —like Levi, Cinch or Wrangler—to achieve that true rough-and-tumble rancher look. Men’s and women’s bootcut jeans are great for a laid-back country look, while a darker denim with a slimmer fit may be better suited for the contemporary countryman or woman. Today’s Western jeans may be simple and unadorned or dazzled with distressing, exposed stitching, embroidery or studs. Just remember that true-blue Western jeans are always just that: blue.
4) BOOTS
You simply can’t dress country without a pair of authentic Western boots. They typically feature saloon-inspired pull straps, ranch-ready leather soles and eye-catching embroidered leather. Choose a pair with a mid-calf length and a pointed or slightly rounded toe for a genuine vintage western touch. You can mix comfort and style by means of a square or wide toe look.
Then, bedazzle beyond the basic Western look with appropriate ACCESSORIES, like studded leather belts with intricate leatherwork and embossing. Country-inclined ladies can complement any cowgirl style with Western jewelry (a stone and silver pairing is always great for down-to-earth looks), leather bags and tooled leather purses. Guys and gals can jazz up their Western gear even further with a silver belt buckle and money clip.
