The first week of October is Active Aging Week. Why not celebrate the benefits of healthy aging and lifestyle by checking out the YMCA’s Active Older Adults (AOA) programs?
Physical activity can help older adults (and everyone else, too) manage their weight while decreasing the risk for heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure, and boost immune systems to fight inflammation and infections.
YMCAs throughout greater Cleveland offer classes that accommodate a wide variety of interests and abilities.
To celebrate the start of Active Aging Week, the YMCA will host its Senior Health & Wellness Fair from 9 a.m.-noon on Monday, Oct. 2, at the Geauga Family YMCA, 12460 Bass Lake Road in Munson Township. The event is free; no registration is required.
Co-hosted with University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, the event will be offering free screenings for glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index, bone density and balance and stroke risk assessments. Additionally, there will be over 30 vendors from all around the area who have products or services that would be of interest to older adults.
