Autumn’s cooler weather can be a great time to visit a zoo. But if you’re a caregiver for someone with dementia, a zoo outing can be daunting, complicated and inconvenient.
Did you know that the Akron Zoo has Dementia Friends certification through Dementia Friendly Summit County? The zoo staff has received education on dementia and memory loss. When planning events, zoo employees consider ways to provide a dementia-inclusive experience for guests and to make a zoo visit a good experience for everyone, including caregivers.
Guest Comfort Station
Located across from the penguin habitat, the Guest Comfort Station is a private room where visitors can go for a few minutes of privacy. The room is also available for nursing mothers.
New in the Guest Comfort Station is an adult changing table. Contact an Akron Zoo staff member or call 330-375-2550 for assistance in setting up the table.
