Start the Year as a Greater Cleveland Volunteer

The interesting thing about volunteering is that everyone gets something out of it. People and the agencies that serve them benefit from the experience, labor and skills of generous volunteers. And there’s nothing like looking outward to help others to lift your spirit. No group knows that better than Greater Cleveland Volunteers.

Volunteers get the spotlight during the busy holiday season when so many people are in need, but those needs for most carry on throughout the year. Greater Cleveland Volunteers works with dozens of partner agencies throughout Northeast Ohio. One of the newest is Open Heart Magic. No experience is necessary; you’ll get all the training you need to provide bedside magic to ill children.

Greater Cleveland Volunteers’ latest newsletter also mentions ways to help people who can’t afford groceries. Did you know that one in 6 people in our region is unsure where their next meal is coming from, according to the agency? In the last six months, Greater Cleveland Food Bank and its partners in our six-county region have helped 400,000 people.

Examples of ways to volunteer include:

  • FOOD DISTRIBUTION: Help with registration, directing traffic, sorting and re-packaging produce and loading vehicles.
  • FOOD PANTRY: Volunteers assist with stocking shelves, sorting, organizing and packaging and helping customers shop.
  • MEALS ON WHEELS: Preparing meals, picking up meals, driving, or walking the delivery to the door.
  • FOOD RESCUE HERO: Pick up donated food items and deliver them to a non-profit agency.
