SUMMARY:Reading of a New Work at DOBAMA THEATRE
DESCRIPTION:Reading of a New Work: “…DA BRONX IS BURN’N!” by Dayshawnda Ash\n\n\n“…DA BRONX IS BURN’N!” is a visceral\, movement-driven play set in the South Bronx during the late 1970s\, when fires tore through neighborhoods and entire communities were left to fend for themselves. At its center is Jamie\, a Black teenage girl coming of age inside a world shaped by abandonment\, domestic violence\, and generational silence. As the city burns around her—both literally and metaphorically—Jamie discovers dance as a language of survival\, resistance\, and self-definition.\nBlending dialogue\, music\, and breakdance-inspired movement\, the play confronts sexual abuse\, intimate partner violence\, and systemic neglect without spectacle or apology. Fire becomes both threat and metaphor: something that destroys\, but also exposes what refuses to disappear. Through Jamie’s relationship with her mother\, her chosen family\, and the streets that raised her\, “ …DA BRONX IS BURN’N!” asks what it means to survive the aftermath—when the flames are gone\, but the ash still clings to the body. This is a story about memory\, movement\, and the people who live on after the city lets them burn.\n\n \n\n\n7:00 pm – Monday 4/27\nLocation: Dobama 2nd Floor Arts Space\n\n\nFree and open to the public. Suggested donation of $15.\n\n\nReservations not required\, but seating is limited and first come\, first serve\n\n\nCall or email the Box Office with any questions about the event:\nBox office: (216) 932-3396\nboxoffice@dobama.org
