SUMMARY:Northeast Ohio Encore Chorale - Encore Creativity for Older Adults 55+
DESCRIPTION:Encore Creativity for Older Adults is the nation’s largest choral arts organization for adults 55 and over. With over 1900 singers\, and over 50 ensembles (and growing!) nationwide in more than 10 states\, Encore is a leading organization in the field of creative aging. They envision a world where all older adults have a place in the arts.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nEncore was established in 2007 by Jeanne Kelly. Jeanne took a leadership role in the landmark Creativity and Aging Study\, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Institutes for Health. The study found that older adults receive tremendous physical\, mental\, and emotional benefits by participating in professionally-led choral arts programs. Over the next fifteen years\, Jeanne led Encore to its current position of national prominence.\n\n\nAccessibility is the key to Encore’s success. There are no auditions to become a member of an Encore program; interested singers need only to have a love for music and a desire to improve their physical\, mental\, and emotional health. No singer needs to have any experience with music or singing\, and the ability to read music is not necessary. Singers may be seated or standing for all ninety-minute rehearsals and performances. Most importantly of all\, Encore is fun! Encore singers love the music\, love to sing\, and thrive on the camaraderie that comes with the Encore experience.\n\n\nTheir repertoire may include selections from the American Songbook\, Broadway show music\, classical and opera\, and secular or religious holiday music. Weekly rehearsals are 90 minutes\, led by a professional choral conductor.\n\n\nEncore Creativity believes that cost should not be a barrier in accessing the arts. Encore’s Scholarship Program helps to offset the cost of tuition for singers needing financial assistance\, helping create a more inclusive and welcoming environment\, regardless of financial status.\n\n\nRegistration is now open for our 15-week Fall session\, which begins August 18th and culminates in a free\, open-to-the-public performance. Rehearsals take place on Mondays\, 1:00-2:30 p.m.\, at the Orange Senior Center\, 32205 Chagrin Blvd\, Pepper Pike\, OH 44124.
