Craft Brewers License Plates: We’ll Drink to That

Corvettes, cats and the Cleveland Cavaliers. You can buy an Ohio license plate supporting one or all of those and dozens of other causes and interests. Now alcohol has joined the specialty license crew.

Drinking and driving is never OK, but driving a car that shows your support for alcohol — craft beer specifically— is fine, according the state license folks.

Car owners can support the Ohio Craft Beer Association with the purchase of their plate. OCBA’s mission is to promote, preserve, diversify and unify Ohio’s craft brewing industry. Upgrade to a specialty Ohio Craft Brewers license plate here.  Not only does it help us promote brewery tourism through the Ohio On Tap app, but $15 from each plate comes back to the Ohio Craft Brewers Association from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

In case you needed some holiday party small talk, the United States has about 10,000 craft breweries, according to the Brewers Association, which represents craft breweries and advocates for the industry. Four of the top 50 craft brewing companies in the country are in Ohio: Rhinegeist Brewery in Cincinnati (16), Great Lakes Brewing Co. in Cleveland (18), BrewDog Brewing Co. in Canal Winchester (30), and Fat Head’s Brewery in Middleburg Heights (48).
