Hale Farm & Village invites the community to commemorate Juneteenth during a powerful four-day living history experience, June 17–20, 2026. As part of the America 250 celebration marking the nation’s 250th anniversary, this immersive program uses storytelling, historical interpretation, and engaging hands-on experiences to explore the challenges, triumphs, and enduring legacy of freedom in post–Civil War America.
Set in the year 1870, this year’s Juneteenth program transports guests into the Reconstruction era – a pivotal moment when newly emancipated African Americans were redefining family, citizenship, education, and democracy in the United States. As guests journey through the historic village, they will encounter reenactors portraying the voices and stories of those who lived through this transformative period, offering moving firsthand perspectives on resilience, perseverance, and hope
A featured highlight of the event will take place on Friday, June 19 at 1 p.m. in the Meetinghouse with a special presentation by Allison Smith portraying Harriet Tubman. This powerful living history portrayal brings to life the extraordinary legacy of Harriet Tubman – abolitionist, activist, Union spy, and conductor of the Underground Railroad whose courage and determination helped lead countless enslaved individuals to freedom.
Throughout the four-day event, guests can also enjoy hands-on activities, demonstrations, musical performances, and meaningful discussions that examine the continuing struggle for freedom and equality across generations.
